"Through an Artist's Eyes" - Opening Reception
“Through an Artist’s Eyes” showcases artwork concentrations spanning multiple disciplines, including drawing, painting, photography and 3D sculptures. Every year, Gaston County art teachers choose artwork from their students to be judged by the Gaston County Museum of Art and History (GCMAH). The winning artworks become part of the museum’s annual art exhibition of elementary through high school students. This year, the museum partnered with the Central Piedmont Art Galleries to display part of this exhibition on Central Campus showcasing the first through third place winners from the high school section. The reception will be held at Central Piedmont Community College, Central Campus, The North Classroom Building *Image credit Alexander Sebastien Brooks.

(zoom) Bhikkhu Bodhi presented by Insight Meditation Community of Charlotte
Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi will be our Guest Speaker (via Zoom). IMCC is honored to offer this special event to Charlotte. Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi is an American Theravada Buddhist monk, ordained in Sri Lanka. He now lives and teaches at Chuang Yen Monastery (Carmel, New York). He is the president of the Buddhist Association of the United States. At this year’s (2019) United Nations celebration in recognition of Vesak, the Buddha’s birthday, he gave an address about our need to confront climate change. (Or, as he notes we might do better to call it, climate destabilization or climate disorientation.) It is, as he puts it, “a critical condition.” He was appointed the second president of the Buddhist Publication Society and has edited and authored several publications grounded in the Theravada Buddhist tradition. He is the founder of the organization Buddhist Global Relief, which funds projects to fight hunger and to empower women across the world. For Zoom link information, go to imccharlotte.org
